Engineered in the Pacific Northwest. Trusted Everywhere.

At Mustang Survival, we pioneered the use of Membrane Inflatable Technology (MIT), revolutionizing inflatable PFDs by making them extremely lightweight and offering a more flexible, low-profile fit for ample protection when fishing, sailing, paddling and boating.

We’ve recently updated our full MIT Range, offering our new and improved convertible inflation technology, additional buoyancy and easier re-arm & repack solutions.

MIT Technology

Membrane Inflatable Technology (MIT) replaces traditional PFD inflation bladders for a more lightweight, comfortable and flexible fit. The MIT membrane is protected by a robust nylon face fabric when not inflated. Once deployed, each MIT PFD displays a high-visibility, contrasting fabric for increased safety in a rescue situation.

Fit. Form. Function.

MIT 150

Introducing the NEW MIT 150 — the only type II-rated MIT PFD, highest buoyancy with 38 lbs when inflated, strongest turning performance and airflow protection. Now built using our convertible inflation technology, users can easily switch between auto & manual modes.

Intended Use: Coastal excursions, fishing, sailing and boating.

MIT 100

When inflated, the MIT 100 provides 28 lbs of buoyancy—1.5x more buoyancy than regular foam PFDs—and will turn most wearers face up. The updated MIT 100 is built using convertible inflation technology, so users can switch between manual & automatic inflation modes as needed.

Intended Use: Coastal & Inshore excursions, fishing, paddling, sailing, boating.

MIT 70

The smallest of its kind approved in North America—The MIT 70 is our most lightweight PFD in the MIT range. With automatic and manual inflation options available, the MIT 70 offers 15.7 lbs of buoyancy when inflated.

Intended Use: Inshore excursions, paddle boarding, kayak angling, boating.

For three years of my adult life I was vegan. I did it because at the time it was believed to be the most ethical dietary choice for the planet. At that point I had only harvested my own food in the form of some small fish when I was younger. I remember feeling awful when I put them down, and it wasn’t a feeling I had any interest in repeating. As I entered my mid-20s I began to understand the scale of commercial farming and the effect that it has on the planet (even when it’s vegetables). This only deepened my interested in finding a more sustainable source of food for myself. When I was in Texas I began occasionally keeping fish from plentiful species like redfish or speckled sea trout. Then I relocated to the Pacific Northwest and learned how to harvest mussels, clams, and crabs, as well as rockfish and salmon. Finally during COVID I took on waterfowl hunting to lower my dependence on the sea. Tack on the ease of finding wild fruits and fungus on top of growing our own vegetables in this region, and I finally felt like I was on to something. I’ve had friendships flourish from taking on these activities, and others dwindle. Something that I’ve found really interesting from the changes in interpersonal relationships is the discomfort over people smiling with their harvest. Why do we do that? It’s a topic I’ve thought long and hard about. The smiles aren’t from some sick joy of ending the life of a wild animal. That part is quite serious, and something you very rarely see photographed. That tense moment is almost always delivered with nothing less than a manner of attentive resolve. The smile comes in the moments after. It’s a smile for the effort. The celebration of harvest; a connection we share with every generation of humans since the beginning of time. The years it took to learn how to complete these feats, the early mornings in pursuit, the countless hours figuring it all out. We smile because we experienced the feeling of using our own hands to supply food for our friends, family, and ourselves. We smile knowing that our quest was not in vain. It is a smile in acceptance of who we are. #gofish #waterislife #huntinglife #fishinglife #salmonfishing

Some great documentary adventures are ahead this year! Since getting back from filming development in Patagonia for our upcoming documentary, “On the Brink of Extinction”we’ve been hard at work planning and coordinating how to film 10millionreasons and leannacarriere on their 30,000km self-powered expedition along the length of the entire western hemisphere. They will be biking, hiking and pack-rafting along the entire pacific migratory bird path flyway from Alaska to Patagonia next year to track and study the birds, many of which are on the brink of extinction. They will also be tracking what happens to the human body when pushed to the limits and running the equivalent of 250 back to back marathons in some of the most extreme and remote places in the world. Our challenge lies within capturing this eight month expedition and bringing their story and findings to the screen. Challenge accepted! . . . . . . #documentary #selfpower #expedition #adventure #travel #birds #climatechange #bike #hiking #swim #triathlon #marathon #active #sport #filmmaking #filmmaker #video #documentaries #story #storytelling #canada #wilderness #wild #cinematography #nature #producer #development #camera #cameraoperator #sony flyway_heroes keepalbertarolling albertafilmgrassroots docorgab sony sonycine mustangsurvival ualberta movingartistryproductions natgeo birdlife.international
